Will Math 1 in 8th grade provide high school credit?
NC NC Math 1 is a North Carolina High School Exit Standard course. To meet the exit standard and receive high school graduation credit for taking Math 1 in middle school, students must successfully pass the course and take the Math 1 End-of-Course test. The End-of-Course test will count as 25% of the final grade. Keep in mind, the final grade will not be calculated in the student’s high school grade point average. Upon meeting the exit standard, students will receive one unit of credit for high school mathematics.

Your child must meet the graduation requirements outlined in the Future Ready Core Course of Study. This requires all students to have four units of mathematics, including NC Math 1, NC Math 2, NC Math 3, and a course with NC Math 3 as a prerequisite. This course will count as one of the four required math courses.
Can a Math 1 student drop Math 1 once the school year has started?
A student may drop Math 1 within the first twenty (20) days of the school year and take regular 8th grade math without penalty. Please contact your school counselor for more information regarding this process.
